The Perfect Life
Flying home from a trip, I watched Good Luck, Have Fun, Don't Die. Despite the questionable movie poster, it left me with an interesting question.
If AI could design the perfect life for you, would you trade your current one for it?
Looking back, I'd say my life was relatively easy for a long time.
I did well in school, got into a university people considered "prestigious," graduated into a booming tech industry, and found a job right away. On paper, it was a smooth, well-paved road.
But it wasn't until I left that comfortable life and met the father of my children that I felt I was truly living.
Since then, there have been plenty of rough stretches: helping bail someone out of jail, the stress of owning a bakery, multiple miscarriages, the collapse of a marriage, and eventually separation.
I wouldn't wish those moments on anyone.
Yet those experiences taught me resilience and how little I actually control, and how important it is to appreciate the people who show up when life gets hard. Some of the darkest chapters also introduced me to some of the kindest people I've ever met.
Which makes me wonder.
If I had been offered a perfectly curated life, free of detours, heartbreak, mistakes, and suffering, would I have taken it?
Honestly, I don't think so.
The road wasn't smooth. But without it, I wouldn't be where or who I am today.
We spend so much of life trying to avoid suffering. But if suffering is what shaped our resilience, our relationships, and our deepest lessons, how much of it would we really choose to erase? Still thinking out loud—curious what you think.
